Sculptych Video

I wanted to share a short video 1 minute video showing a new art form, the Sculptych - a work of art incorporating sculpture and paintings that is multi-dimensional and multimedia. Combining two mediums into constructing a more dynamic narrative and composition. I created this new concept with fellow artist Brandon Bailey. Most of the time I work alone in my studio it has been great to collaborate with another artist on creating this new art form combing sculpture and painting. As artists there are times when we must take chances and experiment. I do not want to go through my career producing the same work over and over. I found collaborating with another artist was so worthwhile, we learned from each other and got our creative juices flowing, the best part, it was fun. I would like to know the thoughts of my friends and what they think of this new art form we created, thanks Chris cnavarroart.com

‘’SASH WARRIOR’’

‘’SASH WARRIOR’’ bronze h. 28” x 19”    A warrior could choose to vow before a battle to become a sash warrior, to die in the bravest way possible by staking himself to a spot and standing his ground in battle. The distinctive sash, made of hide or trade cloth, hung diagonally across the shoulder, held in place by a loop at the end, or by a slit, that placed the sash over the warrior’s head. The sash, usually over twelve feet long and five or so inches wide, trailed behind him while he was afoot, and often trailed along the ground if he was on horseback. In battle, the warrior staked his sash to the ground as the enemy closed in, and remained there until the enemy was defeated or he was killed. The length of the sash provided the wearer mobility during battle. Others could stand with him and try to save him if they wished. A warrior who fought beside a sash wearer four times earned the right to free a friend in future battles. This defender could intervene by pulling the stake when the sash wearer was about to be killed, lashing the wearer across the back, and thereby cancelling the sash warrior’s vow. chrisnavarro.com

‘’IRON TRACKS THROUGH THE WEST’’

‘’IRON TRACKS THROUGH THE WEST’’ This sculpture of the “iron horse” tells the story of America's Westward Expansion by merging the forces and figures that transformed the continent. Like a stream flowing to a river, the iron tracks of the railroad brought change and accelerated the development and progress of America. The railroad connected the people of the Atlantic and Pacific, helping join a diverse nation. The large steam engine and coal car, in a partial relief, symbolize the American drive to forge ahead through industry and technology. The right side of the sculpture shows a Plains Indian on a swift pony pursuing running buffalo; they represent the native peoples and animals of the untamed West. As the running buffalo move through the sculpture, they merge into longhorn cattle, which soon replaced the buffalo that grazed the open grasslands of the prairie. A cowboy on horseback, which is one of the most distinct images of the West, drives this herd of longhorns. Behind these figures, sculpted in relief, rise the Rocky Mountains. An eagle flies through the sky, which is silhouetted in the shape of the locomotive. The eagle’s soaring flight symbolizes the freedom and hope of our great nation. Bronze, 12” x 28” x 8.5” $4800 chrisnavarro.com
