Doing the quickdraw last Saturday in Cody for the Buffalo Bill Art Show with 40 other artists we worked in the big tent becuse it was 36 degrees outside.It was still a lot of fun. The Jackson quickdraw was last week and it was 36 degrees also. It makes the clay hard to work

I just placed my monumental bronze ''AUTUMNS CHALLENGE'' in front of the Cody WY Chamber of Commerce. In the last 25 years, I have been involved with them. I have found they are great people to work with and are huge supporter of the arts. It is a pleasure to be part of all you do for Cody.

The new art form I have created with fellow artist Brandon Bailey the Sculptych - a work of art incorporating sculpture and paintings that is multi-dimensional multimedia divided into sections constructing a narrative, like the frames of a film to tell a story. The response to the new works has been tremendous. We have decided to release a new Sculptych ‘’20% CHANCE OF FLURRIES’’ the Sculptych’’with 2 embellished Giclée prints on canvas limited edition of 100 with bronze sculpture H- 18’’ L- 68’’ W – 7’’. A cowboy rescues a young calf he finds during a springtime blizzard. Putting the calf across his saddle he rides for home. Finally reaching home in the evening he places the calf in the safety and protection of the barn. The image of a cowboy horseback saving a young calf embodies the test of endurance that highlights the best qualities of the men who live in the West. They face hard conditions, and take life as it comes. ( I utilized a splattered paint technique as part of the Sculptych I put it on the sculpture and prints to create a sense of cold and snow. Each Sculptych is unique because of the snow application is put on by hand. This piece very much reminds me of the winters in Wyoming.)

I will be at the 36th Annual Buffalo Bill Art Show and Quick Draw at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Friday & Saturday Sept 22-23 Cody, WY. This will be my 26th year doing this show. If you're in the area stop by and Watch 40 artist create art in 90 minutes it is a blast. I will also be at Big Horn Gallery 1167 Sheridan Avenue Cody, Wyoming this weekend showing new works. I have enclosed photos of work I will have in Cody stop by and visit hope to see you there. 
I have been competing in numerous Quick Draw's in my art career. A QuickDraw is an art event where an artist must create and finish a piece of artwork in a limited amount of time. It is usually one hour to 90 minutes in length. Two Quick Draw's that I do every year in September are the Jackson Hole Arts Festival and the Buffalo Bill Art Show. I really love the fact that they force me to get into the zone. I call it the zone because it is a place you go when you are completely, energized, focused and absorbed in the flow of what you are doing. Time seems to go by unnoticed. Believe me it is the quickest 90 minutes in my life.

. Witnessing the totality in Casper Aug 21 was way cooler and more amazing then I imagined. It inspires you to want to create art that celebrates the experience and that is what life is all about.

Just got back from the Jackson Hole Art Festival quick draw

Just got back from the Jackson Hole Art Festival quick draw. The weather was tough it was 36 degrees and raining. The clay was hard as a rock, lucky I had my wife Lynne Chavez Navarro and good friend Deb Penk to help keep the clay warm with a heat gun and hair dryer. Friend and fellow artist Brandon Bailey was there and we both shared a 12'x 12' tent and kind of stayed dry. My sculpture '' ON THE PROWL'' was auctioned off and I was able to sell 12 editions to be cast in bronze for 1500. ea . Thanks to all the collectors who braved the weather with us. It was still a gret day.

’’THE MESSENGER’’ a new monumental bronze of John W. Smith for San Antonio, TX. Smith was the last messenger sent by Lt. Col William B. Travis. in 1836. He rode out to get reinforcements for the Alamo. The sculpture will be 12.5 feet in height and placed on the Alamo Sculpture Trail, which would include 14 bronze sculptures, placed between the Alamo and the Briscoe Western Art Museum and will be dedicated in 2018 during San Antonio Texas tricentennial celebration. Bronze sculpture last foever!

I was just contacted by a collector whose bronze sculpture was in hurricane Harvey it was under water for 2 weeks and it was fine it just needs to be cleaned and a new wood base. Last year a collectors house burned to the ground and his 2 bronzes were saved they just needed to be repatinaed and have new wood bases. Bronze is such a strong and durable medium to work in, it can survive fire and flood. Bronze sculpture last foever!

The Nicolaysen Art Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary tonight.

The Nicolaysen Art Museum celebrates its 50th anniversary tonight with a evenings of art. On Sept. 8 at 6pm, the museum will host the annual Golden Gala. The fundraiser is part of an ongoing effort to keep the doors open another 50 years. The Nicolaysen Art Museum is part of our community and I appreciate all the people who support the arts in Casper I will have 2 sculptures in the auction event I hope to see you there.
