In 1985 I moved my studio out of the second bedroom when the
kids started to arrive. I built a 12’x24’ shop close to the house and went to
work in that little studio every day. I put in the time and became more skilled
with each piece that I created. I was learning by doing. The secret and
challenge to being an artist is that you have to make art, and lots of it,
because there are no shortcuts. It’s about commitment, day by day, year after
year. Your mastery of a craft is directly proportional to the sheer number of
hours you spend in the effort.
