I saw my bronze ‘’WYOMING COWBOY’’ at UW on fox news they were talking about all the controversy over the University of Wyoming developed a new marketing slogan: “The world needs more cowboys.
Some 30 faculty members complained about the new slogan.
Communications professor Tracey Owens Patton told administrators that the word
“‘cowboy’ is seen as a code for white men only complete with guns, subjugation
and objectification of women, and the macho swagger.”
Now if that isn’t’ a bunch of narrow minded BS! Friends let me know your take on this.
” The world does need more cowboys, and cowboys come in all
shapes , sizes and colors. What makes a cowboy is not a hat or boots, what
really makes a cowboy is their belief and code they live by. Respectable men and women who lived in the
West were bound by unwritten rules that centered on hospitality, fair play,
loyalty, and respect for the land. There was no law on the range back in the
days when the cowboy with their herds carved out a new frontier. Lack of
written law made it necessary to develop a rule of behavior, which became known
as the "Code of the West." These laws were a socially agreed upon
code of conduct that helped shape the cowboy culture of the Old West and were respected
everywhere on the range.
You can't go wrong
practicing these principles in your own life if you are a cowboy or not.
1. Ride for the brand.
2. Your word is your bond.
3. Be tough but fair.
4. Do what has to be done.
5. Protect and help the weak.
6. Always finish what you start.
7. Take pride in your work.
8. Live each day with courage.
There are always
going to be negative people and haters out there who find fault and complain whenever
they can. Their problem is they aren’t cowboys!
