‘’IF WE CAN’T GET A LONG LET’S GET IT ON’’ Quickdraw
Yesterday I finished the Buffalo Bill Art Show and quickdraw. We had 90 minutes to create our piece. This is mine of two buffalo bulls fighting titled ‘’IF WE CAN’T GET A LONG LET’S GET IT ON’’. The weather was great and it was a good time. Tomorrow I fly back out to Artprize in Grand Rapids MI for that art show and relieve Lynne.

I will be at the 37th Annual Buffalo Bill Art Show and Quick
Draw at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West Friday & Saturday Sept 21-22 Cody,
WY. This will be my 28th year doing the show. If you're in the area stop by and
Watch 40 artist create art in 90 minutes it is a blast. I will also be at Big
Horn Gallery 1167 Sheridan Avenue Cody, Wyoming this weekend showing new works.
I have enclosed photos of work I will have in Cody stop by and visit hope to
see you there.
I have been competing in numerous Quick Draw's in my art
career. A QuickDraw is an art event where an artist must create and finish a
piece of artwork in a limited amount of time. It is usually one hour to 90
minutes in length. Two Quick Draw's that I do every year in September are the
Jackson Hole Arts Festival and the Buffalo Bill Art Show. I really love the
fact that they force me to get into the zone. I call it the zone because it is
a place you go when you are completely, energized, focused and absorbed in the
flow of what you are doing. Time seems to go by unnoticed. Believe me it is the
quickest 90 minutes in my life.

BROKEN JUST ABOUT ECERYTHING BUT MY WORD''
BROKEN JUST ABOUT ECERYTHING BUT MY WORD''
I have been asked if this sculpture is a self-portrait. It sure could have been. I have suffered a few injuries in my rodeo career and while working horses. I started rodeo when I was 16, by competing on bulls and broncs, then switched to team roping (in which I still compete). To date, I have had my front teeth knocked out; dislocated my left and right shoulders; broke my right and left collarbone; suffered 12 broken ribs and a collapsed left lung; busted my left thumb and right hand; broke my left shoulder blade; and had five concussions. I have had three surgeries to repair my left shoulder, left collarbone, and my right hand. In rodeo, it is not if you are going to get hurt⎯it’s when and how bad.
I believe being a rodeo cowboy was good training in becoming a professional artist. You have to be physically and mentally tough and learn to compete when you are hurt. You don't get paid unless you come through and deliver. When you get knocked down or bucked off, you just keep getting up and getting back on. You never know what you can do unless you try.
